Spring cleaning invokes visions of dusted shelves, freshly-laundered curtains, and sparkling-clean windows. The smell of clean permeates the air as your step back to admire the annual ritual of a fresh start. It is a great feeling to have a house in a renewed state of order, but what about Spring Cleaning your life? This can also be a great time to step back, reflect, and re-evaluate where you are in your life so you can re-orient yourself back on your intended path.
- Do you have life goals?
- How are you going to reach your Why?
- Are you on a path to reach your goals?
- Have you even thought about setting life goals?
- Do you even know your WHY?
Kai Ehnes asked these questions in his experience “Do you know your WHY?”
One of the strongest tools to develop in leadership, which includes leading your own life, is to know your Why. Your Why is your higher purpose. It is the reason you do anything”
– Kai Ehnes
While taking Kai’s experience, I realized I don’t really have a WHY. In all the chaos of working and raising kids – I failed to really think about what my WHY was. It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind and miss the big picture. What was my bigger purpose? Sure raising kids is a purpose – but eventually they grow up and move away. What comes after that? If I could do anything I wanted to do, what would it be?
Parenting as well as a challenging career can easily cause you to lose your sense of self. You are too busy trying to “do” for everyone that you forget about yourself.
What did I learn from taking this experience?
Just trying to get through each day accomplishing short term goals, I had lost sight of what I really want out of life. Obviously my bigger purpose is not finishing the laundry or grocery store shopping.
What I am going to change?
I’m now inspired to create a goal board with photos of the things I would like to do and accomplish in my life, and I plan to post it over my desk as a daily reminder to stay on the path I have chosen.
