Garret is a retired Marine Corps Pilot. Transitioning from a career of military service was a traumatic chapter of his life; one defined by near constant anxiety, regular panic attacks, and a battle with substance abuse. After surviving this experience, Garret began a journey of personal discovery and a search for purpose and meaning in life.
This journey led Garret to earning a certification in applied positive psychology (the science of human flourishing), and a certification as a human potential trainer following a year-long mentorship with America’s #1 Success Coach, Jack Canfield (co-creator of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series). Garret has used his education and experience to create the Thriving in YOUR Recovery™ program with a mission to serve others who are facing a similar struggle.
Garret is also the author of several books including A Life Unchained: The Spheres Approach to Happiness and Fullfillment.
Through his professional experience, education, and personal life journey, Garret brings a wealth of valuable insight for overcoming adversity, developing resilience against addiction, and finding ways to use our troubled past and the challenges of today to build a better tomorrow.
Garret lives in New Bern, North Carolina. When he is not traveling around the world speaking or serving his nonprofit, One Million Goal, he can be found loitering in a coffee shop, snapping pictures of a sunset, or strolling the town with his “mini-me” (his daughter KK).
Personal Mission: “…to inspire and empower others to live happier, more fulfilling, and more successful lives.”
Values: Compassion, Charity, Contribution, Creativity, and Service
Vision: I envision a world where all people (especially those in recovery) are inspired to believe in themselves, to look within for wisdom, empowerment and compassion; a world where all people achieve their highest potential and fulfill their dreams by connecting with and serving others.
Convene is looking forward to Garret becoming a big part of Convene Hope and Support. His group and courses bring a wealth of knowledge to helping others in their recovery process.
