Tackling Tumultuous Times
Dr. Richmond Wynn joins the convene team, founder Matthew Currin and Renew and Restore Community Leader Patty Mohler, to discuss learning, growing, and transforming as we tackle tumultuous times. Dr. Wynn shares his thoughts, as he has observed the change, conflict, and awakening happening within people (and on a larger scale). What is contributing to this? The 2020 election, social justice movements, health crisis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the complete disruption in what we once considered the ‘normal life.’
Look for signs that someone needs help
Patty Mohler points out that during this time that domestic violence has increased dramatically. She says that we need to learn the signs of people who are showing signs that they are trapped in domestic violence situations and explains that we must provide help when we see it is needed. Patty suggests that we need to listen to understand one another, and when we do that, it will build the bridge to hope and healing.
How do we cope with change?
Dr. Wynn states that substance abuse has risen during this year of change and reflection. We must be able to observe the shift happening internally and externally. We all have internal and external resources for support. Dr. Wynn says that we are all connected, and though we have differences, we have many similarities.
Many factors go into building the bridges to healing and hope.
And the matter of fact is that as we heal, we increase our hope. This discussion is so important as we continue to face unknown challenges and unsure circumstances. We have to build a toolbox of support, healing techniques, and feeding our hope. Building bridges can be as simple as sharing your story or others’ stories through books and podcasts; you have to find where you can help build the bridge because building the bridge of healing and hope is a joint effort.
